More than 300,000 individuals who have taken out student loans
Received inaccurate repayment plan information when debt payments resumed in early October.
The Education Department informed CBS News on Thursday that it has instructed student loan
Repayment servicers to notify affected borrowers and place them in administrative forbearance.
During this period, federal student loan payments are automatically halted, and interest rates are set to 0%.
It's worth noting that the erroneous information affected less than 1% of the 28 million borrowers
who are reentering repayment this month, according to the Education Department.
The department has decided to keep payments on hold until the correct
amounts are calculated to minimize the impact on borrowers.
