A $350 rebate will be given out to Americans from a $53 million pot - see if your property qualifies

Homeowners who qualify are eligible for a $350 payment from a $53million pot.

Aloha taxpayers can rejoice.

A one-time property tax rebate has been approved for owner-occupied homes in Honolulu, Hawaii.

In total, 152,000 residents are expected to receive rebates worth $350.

As it finalized its $3.41 billion operating budget last week, the Honolulu council approved the rebate.

It is estimated that around $53 million will be used to distribute these rebates.

Using the extra cash, Mayor Rick Blangiardi hopes to help homeowners

Deal with last year's spike in home values and tax bills.

It is particularly beneficial for homeowners of lower-valued homes because it is a flat rebate.

A rebate is automatically credited to your account if you are eligible.

Your next tax bill will automatically include the rebate amount.

In Honolulu, the property tax per $1,000 of a home's value is $3.50.

WHAT’S IT WORTH?

Property taxes have gone up significantly for residents whose properties went up in value last year.

Up to $100,000 of a property's value can be covered with $350.
