Maxwell Moldova is in the United States, open
For Ohio State rising-senior Maxwell Moldovan,
Sunday night's call with USGA Robbie Zalznek was one of the best he's ever had.
According to Zalznek, Moldovan will play in this week's U.S. Open. I'm sure he'll do well.
Last Monday, Moldovan shot rounds of 65-68 (-7) at the U.S.
Open Sectional Qualifier at Springfield Country Club in Springfield, OH.
This left him in a 3-for-2 playoff for the final two spots.
The playoff between him and Alex Schaake was down to a 2-for-1 after the first hole.
Schaake made another birdie on the eighth extra hole to win the playoff after matching each other over seven holes.
Despite a grueling 44-hole day of golf, Moldovan was selected third in the alternate order from the Springfield site.
Moldovan was the third alternate for this week's championship.
He received the call on Sunday night.
A nearly four-week stretch of unrivaled golf is culminating this week for Moldovan.
On May 25, he and his Buckeye teammates played a practice round at
Grayhawk Golf Club in preparation for the NCAA Championship.
