For Americans who wish to claim $1,000 in monthly payments, time is almost up.
Alameda, California's council allocated $4.6 million of American Rescue Plan
Act funds to run a guaranteed income program to provide cash assistance.
Providing monthly installments to needy residents, these programs aim to
Rreduce poverty and help people pay their bills.
For two years, 150 households will receive $1,000 in monthly payments under Rise up Alameda.
A goal of Rise Up Alameda is to reduce economic instability for program participants,
Change local narratives and perceptions of poverty and the provision of public services,
and contribute to a larger conversation about public benefits and anti-poverty policies," officials said.
