Get up to $10,600 in rebates for energy efficiency!
In Canada, buildings, including homes, account for 18% of greenhouse gas emissions. To offset these emissions, NRCan created the Canada Greener Homes Grant, which not only helps our planet, but also makes your home more comfortable and affordable! With this grant, you’ll be able to receive rebates of up to $10,600 and home evaluations of up to $600!
As part of the grant, Dr HVAC offers services that are covered, and we want to make the application process as easy as possible.
To help you get started, we have broken down the application into a step-by-step guide.

Step 2 – Book & complete your EnerGuide assessment
An energy auditor must evaluate your home before any work can begin. This fee is reimbursed by the government, up to $600. Find a Registered Energy Advisor in your area using your zip code. They will provide you with all the information you need on what energy-saving changes you can make in your home.
- To receive your reimbursement, you must provide proof of the evaluation and complete the entire Greener Homes Grant process.
- An EnerGuide rating, a Renovation Upgrade Report, a Homeowner Information Sheet, and an invoice will follow your evaluation.
An optional step is to apply for a Canada Greener Homes Loan
Loan Amount: $5,000 – $40,000
Repayment term: 10 years, interest-free
Loan Type: Unsecured personal loan on approved credit
Candidate eligibility:
- To be eligible for the Canada Greener Homes Grant or an equivalent provincial program, you must apply
- Your home must be your primary residence, and you must be a Canadian homeowner
- The pre-retrofit evaluation of your home has been completed by April 1, 2020, or later
- Your credit history is good and you are not in the following situations:

Step 3: Complete your energy-saving measures
Let Dr HVAC help you with your HVAC changes- smart thermostat installation, furnace upgrades, and air conditioner upgrades! We offer advice, offer documentation, and help you receive your rebate!
Book a Post-Retrofit Evaluation and complete it
As a result of the retrofits, the government requires that a post-retrofit evaluation be completed in order to determine the amount of energy saved and greenhouse gas emissions reduced. Your advisor must take “Before” and “After” photos in order to receive your grant, so this is particularly important.
- Your changes will be evaluated again
- In addition to your new EnerGuide rating and label, you’ll also receive additional information on how to improve your home’s energy efficiency.
5 – Apply for your reimbursement
All required documents must be submitted online via the Enbridge Gas website. You will need to provide proof of your upgrades as follows:
- Rating and evaluation reports (both before and after changes)
- Work invoices and receipts
Here is some important information
- Federal grants are not taxable and do not require tax declaration
- Until 2028, keep all your documents.
- If you hire a professional to install anything in your home, make sure they have a license.
- Grants are prorated based on the type of home and the percentage of improvements you make.
- It is always better to have too much information than not enough when it comes to this program.
In order to reduce carbon emissions, we hope that this guide has given you a better understanding of the program and that you will be a part of our efforts. We can reach our goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 by taking steps like these. For more information, visit the NRCA.
